PST file corruption is more likely when it is an ANSI PST, that is used in MS Outlook 2002 and earlier versions. Consider, an Outlook user suddenly encounters a bloated PST because of an unexpected event. He had a custom contact folder with few contact sub-folders. When heshe tried to add contacts to the contact folders programmatically, the PST file size grew dramatically to a great extent.

Solution


To reduce the overall size of a bloated Outlook PST, you should adopt one of the following measures:

Since Outlook PST is a database, deleting the items will have minor effect on the file size. So, you need to compact the file after deleting the items.
